Arthur Ashe Jr. Sport Scholars Announced

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University had 11 student-athletes recognized as 2008 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars, it was announced recently.

Of the 11 Cougar student-athletes honored, four were named to the first team for their respective sport: Diana Hong (women's golf), Angelica Flynn (track and field), Marisa Sandoval (track and field) and Brittany Johnson (volleyball).

Romeen Abdollmohammadi (football), Jed Collins (football) and Shaye Harrel (soccer) were each named to the second team, while Randy Johnson (football), Caeli Abeyta (soccer), Meghan Leonard (track and field) and Maureen Perez (volleyball) were each named third team.

Collins is currently playing professional football for the Philadelphia Eagles, while Leonard will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in this week's NCAA Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars must meet the selection criteria by competing in an intercollegiate sport, maintaining a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2 and be active on their campuses or in their communities.
