Public Address Announcer - Volleyball

Overview

The Washington State University Athletic Department is looking for a Public Address Announcer for its home volleyball matches, starting with the 2008 season. The PA Announcer's duties include announcing starting line-ups, all game action, public address announcements, presentations, contests, and other duties as assigned. The PA Announcer is the main voice of WSU Athletics while in Bohler Gym. The PA Announcer works closely with the marketing staff and others to create a fan friendly and entertaining environment in Bohler Gym.

Requirements

  • Strong vocal talent
  • A unique and definitive personality
  • Strong knowledge of college volleyball, including rules and positions; specific knowledge of WSU volleyball a plus
  • Ability to multi-task in a stressful environment
  • Comfortable announcing to crowds of 3,000 people on a microphone
  • Comfortable announcing complex names from a variety of ethnic backgrounds
  • Able to attend all home WSU volleyball matches and arrive one hour before match time for each contest
  • Available to attend appropriate pre-match meetings
  • Receptive to both positive and negative feedback
  • Ability to be spontaneous and react quickly as appropriate
  • Comfortable working closely with marketing and sports information staff members
  • Experience working as a PA announcer in a collegiate sports, in television, or radio preferred, but not required

Compensation

The public address announcer is compensated at the rate of $50 per match. The position is considered part-time and does not include and University benefits. The public address announcer is also provided two season passes for personal use and a game-day parking pass.
