Football
The Washington State football team traveled to the University of Southern California on Saturday. The Cougars suffered their second loss of the season at the hands of the No. 1 Trojans, 47-14. It was the Pacific-10 opener for both squads and USC's 35th consecutive victory at home.
- Quarterback Alex Brink completed 7 of 33 passes for 165 yards.
- Tight end Jed Collins and receiver Michael Bumpus were on the receiving end of the two WSU touchdowns.
- USC leads the series 59-8-4 and racked up 509 total yards in offense compared to WSU's 247.
Women's Soccer
The women's soccer team split a pair of matches at the UNLV Rebel Classic. UNLV was victorious over WSU in the first game, 1-0. The Cougars rebounded with a 1-0 shut-out over Nevada with redshirt freshman Mallory Fox scoring the game winner.
Volleyball
The WSU volleyball squad opened Pacific-10 play over the weekend. The Cougars dropped a five-set match to Oregon State (32-30, 30-32, 25-30, 30-21, 16-14). WSU suffered a second Pac-10 loss to No. 24 Oregon (30-24, 30-24, 30-22) to start conference play 0-2.
- Four Cougars put up double figures in the kill column against Oregon State led by Adetokunbo Faleti's 20.
- Maureen Perez tallied up a career-high 66 assists against Oregon State.
- Tara West recorded six blocks against Oregon.
Cross Country
The Cougar cross country squads had last week off and are preparing for the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis this upcoming weekend.
Women's Tennis
In the first competition of the season for the WSU women's tennis squad, senior Ekaterina Burduli was the No. 1 singles champion. Burduli defeated her Boise State opponent 6-0, 6-4 in the title win.
- Also winning her bracket was freshman Marina Nicolas at the No. 3 slot.
- Senior Aleksandra Stefanova was the runner-up in the No. 2 singles bracket.
- Two doubles teams posted second-place showings as well.
Men's and Women's Golf
The WSU golf teams competed at the Giustina Memorial Classic last week. The women walked away with the team trophy and the men placed sixth.
- It was the 18th win in school history for the Cougar women.
- Three Cougars placed in the top 10 for the women, led by junior Amy Eneroth in second place with a 3-over par 219.
- Sophomore Nick Grigsby led the men in an eighth-place tie with a four-under par 212.
