Football
Despite a fourth quarter surge, the Washington State football team fell to California 20-17. The Cougars are now 3-6 overall and 1-5 in Pacific-10 conference play.

  • Michael Bumpus caught four receptions to tie the WSU career receptions record of 176 set by Hugh Campbell.
  • Alex Brink threw for 306 yards, including 168 yards in the fourth quarter.
  • Brandon Gibson had four catches for 136 yards, including 115 yards on two fourth-quarter receptions.
Men's Basketball
In its only exhibition game of the season, the WSU men's basketball team defeated Lewis-Clark State College 80-42.
  • Three players scored in double digits, led by Daven Harmeling with 17 points.
  • Kyle Weaver dished out six assists and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
  • The Cougars will kick off their season in a home opener against Eastern Washington Nov. 9.
Women's Basketball
In the first of two exhibition games, the WSU women's basketball team recorded a 72-62 win over Southern Oregon.
  • Katie Appleton scored a game-high 20 points.
  • Heather Molzen recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
  • The Cougars will play their second exhibition game today at 7 p.m.
Soccer
The WSU soccer squad suffered a pair of losses to nationally ranked teams, dropping a 2-1 decision to California Friday and another 2-1 loss in overtime to Stanford Sunday. The Cougars are now 10-4-3 overall and 3-3-1 in conference play.
  • Brooke Bemis scored the Cougars' goal against California for her ninth goal of the season, moving her into a tie for 10th on both the WSU single-season and Cougar career lists for goals.
  • Kiersten Dallstream scored the lone Cougar goal against Stanford for her ninth goal of the season to tie her with Bemis for the team lead.
  • WSU wraps up its regular season this weekend against UCLA and USC, both nationally ranked squads.
Volleyball
The WSU volleyball team dropped a pair of matches, losing to Arizona State (30-22, 28-30, 30-22, 31-29) and Arizona (30-17, 30-23, 30-15). The Cougars are 9-17 overall 0-12 in conference play.
  • Jackie Albright knocked down 19 kills and added 15 digs against Arizona State.
  • Tara West added 13 kills against Arizona State.
  • Kelly Hyder had 32 digs on the weekend and moved into seventh place on the Cougars' all-time career digs list with 992 in her two seasons at WSU.
Women's Golf
The WSU women's golf team recorded an eighth place finish out of 19 teams at the Kent Youel Invitational. Amy Eneroth led the Cougars with a score of 229 and a 22nd-place tie. Jessica Black finished just outside of the top 25 with a 26th-place showing a 230 total.


Men's Golf
Nick Ellis led the Cougars to a 12th-place finish at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate. Ellis shot a 214 and tied for 23rd. Kevin Tucker tied for 29th with a score of 215.

Swimming
The WSU swimming squad hosted the Debbie Pipher Memorial Invite, competing against Ohio State, University of the Pacific and Idaho. The final relay determined the team race and the Cougars placed a close third with 204 points. Ohio State won the invite with 212.5 points and Pacific was second with 206 points.
