
Wauters, Williams Win WSU Indoor Open Weight Throws

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Idaho's Matthew Wauters won the men's 35-pound weight throw with an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark and meet record throw of 68-feet, 10 inches (20.98m), Friday night at the Sixth Annual WSU Open Indoor, a two-day meet held at WSU's Indoor Practice Facility.
This is the fourth consecutive year Wauters, a redshirt junior, has won the WSU Open weight throw and the second year he has broken the meet record.
WSU's Phil MacArthur placed sixth with a lifetime-best toss of 56-1 1/4 (17.10m). Cougars Chase Mancuso finished night with a throw of 53-1 3/4 (16.20m) while Matt Gill, competing unattached, was 12th with a toss of 38-7 (11.76m).
Montana's Brittany Williams won the women 20-pound weight throw with a distance of 52-1 3/4 (15.89m) with WSU's McKenzie Garberg taking second place after throwing a distance of 51-9 1/4 (15.78m) which is the sixth-best women's weight throw in school history.
The WSU Open continues Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with the remaining field and all the running events. Spectator admission is free of charge.
