Rickey Moody Sixth in Decathlon at Olympic Trials after First Day

EUGENE, Ore. -- Washington State's 2008 graduate and All-American Rickey Moody is in sixth place after the first five events in the men's decathlon at the USA Olympic Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Moody, from Puyallup, Wash., scored 4,111 points running the 100m in 11.09 seconds, long jumping 24-feet, 3 3/4 inches (7.41m), throwing the shot put 50-1 3/4 (15.28m), high jumped a lifetime-best height of 6-8 3/4 (2.05m), and ran the 400m dash in 52.58 seconds.

Brian Clay is the first day decathlon leader with 4,476 points. The Pac-10 2008 champion, Ashton Eaton (Oregon) is in fifth place with 4,226 points.

Moody finished second at the 2008 Pac-10 decathlon and took eighth place at the NCAA Championships.

The decathlon resumes Monday morning.
