Matt Lamb to Compete at NACAC U-23 Track & Field Championships

July 16, 2008

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State junior Matt Lamb will compete in the men's discus throw at the 2008 North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) Under 23 Track and Field Championships, July 18-20, at Toluca, Mexico.

Lamb, from Emmett, Idaho, competed at the USA Olympic Trials, finishing 10th overall as Cougar alum Ian Waltz won the men's discus. Lamb threw a personal-record discus distance of 204-feet, 7 inches (62.36m) in the July 3 qualifying round at Eugene.

A two-time NCAA All-American, Lamb missed the 2008 collegiate outdoor season recuperating from back spasms that began at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Championships. After training late in the spring, he threw a discus PR of 204-0 (62.18m) at the Gary Shaw Big Throwers Meet May 21-22, at Salinas, Calif., to qualify for the Olympic Trials.

The NACAC is the continental confederation governing body of athletics for national governing bodies and multi-national federations within North America, Central America and the Caribbean. NACAC is one of six area associations of the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF).

Lamb is scheduled to throw the discus during the morning of Friday, July 18.
