Nov. 14, 2006

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University's Alex Grant, Woody Favinger and Haley Paul were named to the Division I All-West Region team Tuesday, as announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Sophomore Favinger (Bellingham, Wash.) and junior Grant (Bellingham, Wash.) are representing the Cougar men and are slated to compete in the NCAA Cross Country Championships, Nov. 20 in Terre Haute, Ind. Grant and Favinger earned their spot on the All-West team by placing 23rd and 25th, respectively at the West Regional meet, held Nov. 11.

Grant and Jones have consistently combined as the Cougars top finishers this year with Favinger running to an impressive 18th place at the Pac-10 Championships. Grant followed suit by placing 19th.

Paul, a junior from Phoenix Ariz., led the Cougar women in the West Regional meet and finished 18th. Paul placed in the top 25 in every race she participated in this year including her 11th place finish at the Pac-10 Championships.

Athletes must finish in the top 25 of their region and meet the NCAA Division I Cross Country Coaches Association requirements to be considered for an all-region team.
