WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Six women and five men from Washington State University were named to the 2006 Pacific-10 Conference Cross Country All-Academic teams Friday by Commissioner Tom Hansen.

Haley Paul, a junior from Phoenix, Ariz., was named to the women's first team with a 3.94 grade point average as an anthropology major. Redshirt freshman Sara Trané, from Pixbo, Sweden, also earned first team honors with a 3.97 GPA as a movement studies major. The four Cougar women named to the honorable mention team are: Collier Lawrence, junior, Reno, Nev. (movement studies), Meghan Leonard, sophomore, Newberg, Ore. (movement studies), Kayle Peterson, senior, Port Orchard, Wash. (business), and Kelly Ramirez, senior, Duvall, Wash. (biology).

Sophomore Woody Favinger, a business major from Bellingham, Wash., earned men's first team honors with a 3.70 GPA. Drew Polley's 3.73 GPA (civil engineering) earned the sophomore from Port Orchard, Wash., second team honors. Three Cougar men were named to the honorable mention team: Alex Grant, junior, Bellingham, Wash. (environmental science), Andrew Jones, junior, Gillette, Wyo. (wildlife ecology), and Chris Williams, junior, Federal Way, Wash. (education).

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor. A total of 67 women and 48 men were selected for the 2006 Pac-10 Cross Country All-Academic teams.
