Washington Captures Series Against Cougar Baseball

May 11, 2008

Box Score

SEATTLE - Kyle Conley homered twice and drove in four runs to lead Washington past Washington State 5-1 in the rubber game of a Pacific-10 Conference baseball series at Husky Ballpark, Sunday.

Both of Conley's blasts came against Washington State (27-22, 6-12 Pac-10) starter Chad Arnold (2-5) with a man aboard. He homered to left center in the first with two outs after David Bentrott led off with a single and cleared the wall down the right field line in the third after a two-out single by Andy Lentz. Bradley Boyer finished Arnold's day when he led off the fourth with home run to right center to increase the Washington (31-17, 10-8 Pac-10) to 5-0.

The Cougars broke through for a run in the fifth on Nick Haughian (6-4) to cut their deficit to 5-1. With one out, Alex Burg walked, Scott Suttmeier singled, and Greg Lagreid was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Michael Weber followed with a sacrifice fly for his team-leading 11th RBI in May. Haughian went the distance, limited the Cougars to four hits, and struck out 11.

"You have to tip your cap to Nick Haughian," WSU Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "He did for Washington today what Jayson Miller did for us yesterday."

Washington State travels to Gonzaga for its final nonconference game of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Tuesday.
