Daman Signs Free Agent Contract with St. Louis Cardinals

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University pitcher Wayne Daman Jr., who completed his WSU career this past season, has begun his professional career after signing a free agent contract with the Saint Louis Cardinals. Daman made his professional debut June 20 with the Batavia Muckdogs, the Cardinals' Class A short-season affiliate in Batavia, N.Y.

Daman capped his four-year Cougar career this past May by begin named to the Pacific-10 Conference honorable mention team. He posted a 5-4 record with a team-best 3.28 ERA in 14 appearances, all in a starting role. Daman's final home outing came in a 5-1 victory over UCLA where he threw the first complete game of his career, scattering one run on six hits with two strikeouts.

For his career, the Beaver, Wash. native registered 197 strikeouts, ninth on WSU's all-time list. His 45 career starts are tied for fourth all-time while his 293 innings pitched are eighth on the Cougar career list.
