2008 NBA Summer League Update: July 20
July 20, 2008
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Former Washington State University men's basketball student-athletes Kyle Weaver, Derrick Low and Jeff Varem are currently taking part in the 2008 NBA Summer League presented by EA Sports, July 11-20 at the COX Pavilion and Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of UNLV.
The 38th overall pick in the second round of the 2008 NBA Draft, Weaver was invited to participate in summer league competition by the team that drafted him, the Charlotte Bobcats. Low is representing the Dallas Mavericks, while Varem is playing with the Denver Nuggets.
Below are Derrick Low's thoughts on summer league from Tuesday, July 15. "Summer league is cool, it's a really good experience for me. Not many local boys from Hawaii actually get to participate in the NBA Summer League, so I'm enjoying myself. As a player and competitor I'm disappointed at the amount of time I'm getting, but I'm making the most out of what they're giving me. I just try to remain positive and mentally ready at all times when I'm sitting on the bench because when I do go in, I'll be ready. This is kind of reminding me of how it was with the Pan-American team. Hopefully when I do get my chance to play more, good things will happen because I stayed patient and mentally ready."
Below is a look at how each has fared five days into NBA Summer League play.
