June 4, 2008
PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State senior wide receiver Brandon Gibson was named to Phil Steele's Preseason All-America Team, and is one of seven Cougars named to the Preseason All-Pacific-10 Conference Team, the magazine announced recently.
Gibson, who led the conference and set a WSU single-season record with 1,180 yards in 2007, garnered third-team All-America and first-team All-Pac-10 accolades.
Gibson was one of three offensive players from WSU to be named to the all-conference list, with redshirt junior running back Dwight Tardy and senior offensive tackle Vaughn Lesuma each being named All-Pac-10 Third Team.
Senior defensive tackle A'i Ahmu was one of four Cougar defenders named to the list, garnering third-team recognition. Junior defensive end Andy Mattingly, senior middle linebacker Greg Trent and sophomore defensive back Chima Nwachukwu were each named honorable mention All-Pac-10.
The Cougars open their season against Oklahoma State in the Cougar Gridiron Classic presented by Washington's Beef Producers Aug. 30, at Qwest Field in Seattle.
