Tucker is in First at Desert Intercollegiate

Oct. 4, 2008

Palm Desert, Calif.- Washington State men's golf was led by Junior Kevin Tucker after the first day of play at the par-72, 7,305-yard Classic Club Golf Course. Tucker will enter the final round in first place.

Tucker opened with a first-round score of 70(-2), and shot 71(-1) in the second round. The Kennewick, Wash. native finished the first day of play with a score of 141 (-3), placing him ahead of Nick Nelson (Utah Valley) by three strokes.

"Tucker plays great in any conditions but considering we played through a sandstorm and 30 "mile-an-hour" winds, he played two incredible rounds of golf," said WSU Head Coach Walt Williams.

Junior Austin Hurt finished the first day tied for 44th place. Hurt shot a two-round score of 154 (+10).

Freshman Trent Sanders shot a two-round total of 155 (+11).

Sophomore Xavier Dailly carded a two-round score of 157 (+13). Junior Nick Ellis enters the final round in a tie for 63rd place after posting a two-round score of 158 (+14).

The Cougars posted a 294 and 308 in the first and second round today. The men posted a two-round score of 602 (+26) to finish in a tie for seventh place with UMKC.

"As for the team we played respectable in the morning but once again we were unable to put the second round together and except for Kevin we played very poorly in the afternoon," said Williams. "The wind was tough but not 308 tough!"

WSU will begin the final round tomorrow. The results will be posted at www.cougars.com.
