SEATTLE, Wash. - The Washington State University women's rowing team raced three boats at the annual Head of the Lake regatta in Seattle on Sunday, coming away with two second place finishes, a third place finish, and a positive feeling going into the winter.

"It was a solid performance and we are looking forward to getting back to winter training," Washington State head coach Jane LaRiviere said after the race.

The varsity eight boat earned second place with a time of 17:38.23, finishing eight seconds behind first place Washington and 24 seconds ahead of British Columbia.

The second varsity eight stroked to second place, about 40 second behind Washington and in front of Gonzaga, with a time of 18:20.14.

The third varsity eight boat placed third, edging out the fourth place Washington boat by sixteen hundredths of a second, with a time of 19:18.06.

The Head of the Lake marked the final regatta in the Cougar's fall season. WSU will next begin winter camp, followed by the start of the spring season March 21, 2009, with Class Day races at Wawawai Landing.
