WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Seventeen members of the Washington State University women's rowing team earned Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic accolades, commissioner Tom Hansen announced last week. The Cougars placed eighth at the NCAA Rowing Championships last weekend and third at the Pac-10 Championships last month.
Six Cougars were named to the first team including seniors Tara McTavish (3.42 GPA, zoology) and Tiana Rodriquez (3.66 GPA, marketing), junior Liz Rand (3.50 GPA, Movement Studies) and sophomores Alex Bond (3.97 GPA, neuroscience), Kyann Martin (3.88 GPA, undeclared) and Hannah Rothstrom (3.88 GPA, undeclared).
Seven members of the WSU squad earned second team accolades including senior Kelly O'Brien (3.17 GPA, hospitality business management), junior Carly Farris (3.37 GPA, food science and human nutrition) and sophomores Corina Chilibeck (3.58 GPA, bioengineering), Suzanne Cox (3.60 GPA, civil engineering), Erika Jorgensen (3.47 GPA, undeclared), Erica Lewis (3.50 GPA, movement studies) and Katie Wollstein (3.54 GPA, wildlife ecology).
Rounding out the Cougar honorees were honorable mention sophomores Kasey Heil (3.10 GPA, movement studies), Amanda Kyle (3.18 GPA, speech and hearing sciences), Sarah Law (3.02 GPA, political science) and Crystal Martin (3.15 GPA, undeclared).
McTavish and Rodriquez repeated as first team honorees from 2007. McTavish has been honored the past three seasons for her academic achievements, earning second team honors as a sophomore in 2006. Farris and O'Brien are also repeat honorees as Farris received second team accolades as a sophomore last season and O'Brien was an honorable mention as a sophomore and junior in 2006 and 07, respectively.
To be eligible for selection to the Pac-10 academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average and be in at least her second academic year.
