Women's Golf Receives First NLI

Nov. 17, 2008

PULLMAN, Wash - Washington State University Women's Golf Head Coach Walt Williams received a National Letter of Intent from Alexandra Thompson last week. She will join the youthful Cougars during the 2009-10 season.

The golfer out of Timberline High School in Boise, Idaho has been active, competing in numerous junior tournaments. Thompson was a repeat winner of the Big "I" National Insurance Qualifier in 2007 and 2008, and also competed in the America Cup during both those seasons. During the 2008 season she won the Tournament of Champions in Sun Valley, Idaho, and conquered the field during the 2008 Junior World Golf Championship Qualifier.

Thompson has also found success throughout her high school career under head coach Todd Simpson. During her freshman season she helped the Wolves win the Idaho 5A State Championship where she finished second individually. She continued to prove herself on the state level by finishing third her sophomore year and was runner up during her junior season.

The soon-to-be Cougar also received varsity letters through cross country and as a member of the Alpine Ski Club. Thompson plans to study education when she arrives at WSU.
