PULLMAN, Wash. - Junior Carly Dobratz and freshman Tiara Pittman scored second half goals and Washington State women's soccer defeated Eastern Washington 3-1 in nonconference action, Friday at Lower Soccer Field.
The Cougars (6-2-3) have won their first-four home matches for the first time since 2000. Washington State also ran its home winning streak to five for the first time since 1998-99.
Dobratz's notched the game-winner, her third goal of the season, at 49:50 off a cross from redshirt-sophomore Mallory Fox. The tally put the Cougars on top 2-0.
At 61:24, the Eagles' Lauryn Koelzer recorded her team-leading fifth goal of the season to cut the WSU lead to 2-1. It was the first goal given up at home by the Cougars this season and the first one given up by WSU at home in 397:57 dating back to last season.
"Eastern Washington was a feisty team," WSU Head Coach Matt Potter said. "We tried to simplify the game at halftime and our adjustments paid off in the second half."
WSU freshman Tiara Pittman capped the scoring with her first-collegiate goal when she beat a defender 1-on-1, dribbled into the box, and found the back of the net at 69:53.
Pittman is the seventh Cougar to score a goal this season and the 10th to register a point. Last season, WSU had five goal-scorers and nine student-athletes record a point.
Junior Elysse Van Leer began the scoring at 29:49 with her fourth goal of the season. Freshman Jacquelyn Roth served a free kick into the box and Van Leer headed the ball past Eastern Washington goalkeeper Ashley Renz.
Washington State opens Pacific-10 Conference play at UCLA Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
