Cougar Kiersten Dallstream, USA U-20 Defeat France in World Cup Opener

CHILLAN, Chile - Washington State junior Kiersten Dallstream started for the United States in the opener of the Under-20 Women's World Cup and the Americans defeated France 3-0, Wednesday.

The Fountain Hills, Ariz., native who recently completed her junior season with the Cougars, played all 90 minutes as the United States moved to the top of the Group B standings with the victory.

The American earned three points for the victory while China and Argentina each picked up one point in a 0-0 draw during the group's other match of day one.

Up next for the United States is Argentina, Saturday at 7 a.m. Pacific. The top two teams in each of four groups (A-D) advance to the tournament's quarterfinals.

All three of the American goals against the French came in the second half. Sydney Leroux was the star of the match as she assisted on Alex Morgan's game-winning goal in the 53rd minute before tallying goals of her own in the 56th and 71st minutes, respectively.
