2008-09 Swimming Schedule Announced

Aug. 28, 2008

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State women's swim team has slated five home events for the 2008-09 season including the second annual Debbie Pipher Memorial Invite scheduled for Oct. 24-25.

The Cougars will kick off the season at Stockton, Calif., with the TYR Pacific Invite and then return to the Palouse to host Notre Dame, Ohio, Fresno State and Idaho at the Debbie Pipher Memorial Invite.

"We're really excited about the teams we have coming out to Pullman this season, especially the level of competition coming to the Debbie Pipher Memorial Invite in October," head coach Erica Quam said. "It will be very exciting for the campus and our team to have that level of competition here."

WSU will continue its preseason with a dual meet against Nevada, Nov. 1 at Reno as well as home meets against Northern Arizona, Nov. 15, and Seattle, Nov. 21.

Washington State will also be competing in the Texas Invite, Dec. 4-6, the UC Irvine Invite, Jan. 3 and the Long Beach Grand Prix, Jan. 16-19. The Cougars will wrap up nonleague competition with dual meets against Idaho, Jan. 23 at Moscow and Boise State, Jan. 25 at Pullman.

"The Texas Invite is a nationally renowned event that always brings about fast swimming," Quam said. "We hope to use the event as an indicator of where we are at and what we need to come back and focus on in the second half of the season."

The Cougars will have Pacific-10 Conference dual meets against Oregon State, Jan. 31 at Corvallis and finish out regular season with archrival Washington Feb. 7 at Pullman.

The Pacific-10 Championships will be held at Federal Way, Wash., and begin Feb. 25.

"We are very excited to have Pac-10s back in Federal Way this year," Quam said. "It will give our Cougars on the west side an opportunity to watch us compete at that level."
