Cougars Conclude Play at Jack Taylor Classic

Elisabeth Fournier and Ekaterina Kamendova provided the two singles wins Sunday as Washington State University concluded play at the Jack Taylor Classic, hosted by Boise State University at the Appleton Tennis Center.
"We played well today," said WSU Head Coach Lisa Hart. "Liz continued her strong start to the season and Kate (Kamendova) also came through with a good win. It was a good tournament for us as we faced three strong opponents, which will prepare us well as we focus on the ITA Regional in a few weeks."
WSU opened play Sunday by facing the University of Utah in doubles action. Jessica Gomez and Marina Nicolas captured the only Cougar win as they defeated Leigh Walsh and Lisa Johnson, 8-3. Anastasia Putilina and Erin Monson defeated Kamendova and Alexandra Oprea, 8-3, while Lexi Provancha and Andrea Maughan defeated Fournier and Aleksandra Cekic, 8-6.
In singles play against Boise State, Kamendova posted a three-set win over Vivien Silfany, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, while Fournier also needed three sets to defeat Bianca Jochimsen, 6-1, 2-6, 6-1. The win ran Fournier's fall season record to a perfect 7-0.
In the remaining matches against the Broncos, Lauren Megale defeated Oprea, 6-0, 6-1, Rocio Frej defeated Gomez, 6-4, 6-2, Jana Mackova defeated Cekic, 6-4, 6-2, Klaudia Wlodarczyk defeated Nicolas, 6-0, 7-5, and Laura Baum earned the win over Bianca Selaru when Selaru was forced to retire leading 3-2 in the first set.
