Volleyball Team Takes Pre-season Practice to Europe

PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Washington State University volleyball team will travel and compete in Europe this month in lieu of pre-season practice in Pullman, Cougar head coach Cindy Fredrick announced Monday.

The Cougars leave Spokane early Friday morning, Aug. 9, and arrive in Munich, Germany, Saturday morning, Aug. 10. The WSU women's volleyball team - 16 players, including eight freshmen - will play matches against eight elite club teams while across the Atlantic.

The cities and teams Washington State will face in Europe are: Munich, Germany (Team Lohoff); Augsburg, Germany (Augsburg Team); Salzburg, Austria (Salzburg Team); Budapest, Hungary (Hungarian Junior National 20 and under Team, and Club Vassa); Brno, Czech Republic (Brno Team); Prague, Czech Republic (Olymp Praha). There is also a possibility of playing the Czech Republic National Women's Team prior to returning to the Palouse Aug. 22.

The tour was arranged through the Bring It Promotions, LLC, Tim Kelly founder and owner.

Washington State opens the 2002 volleyball competitive schedule by hosting the 13th Annual Cougar Challenge Tournament featuring BYU, Nevada, and Gonzaga, Aug. 30-31, at Bohler Gym.
