Volleyball Crosses Cascades for Match at No. 4 Washington

COUGARS VERSUS HUSKIES THIS FRIDAY: The Washington State volleyball team, 9-14 overall, 0-9 in Pacific-10 Conference action, travels to Seattle for a single match this week against No. 4 Washington (19-1 overall, 8-1 in Pac-10) Friday night...the 7 p.m. match will take place in the Bank of America Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion...in an earlier match this season, UW defeated WSU 30-22, 30-18, 30-24 in Pullman...in the Cats versus Dawgs battle last year in Seattle, No. 5 Washington prevailed 3-0 but WSU put up quite a battle with games scores of 32-30, 30-28, and 34-32, before 6,213 fans at the volleyball/men's basketball double-header...Cougar fans can listen to the match on the radio in the Pullman area or through the internet (see below).

COUGAR COACHING STAFF: Brian Heffernan is coaching his fourth season at WSU (38-79 WSU and career record)...Ken Ko, associate head coach (fourth year) is joined by assistant coach Gretchen Killebrew (first year)...Mark Killebrew is the coordinator of volleyball operations (first year)...Edgard da Gama e Silva Filho (Dega) is a volunteer coach.

THE ABC CAMPAIGN: Cougar volleyball and the Breast Cancer Support Group of the Palouse, known as the Bosom Buddies, have joined together for the Attacking Breast Cancer (ABC) Pledge Drive for the sixth consecutive year...October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Cougar players will be collecting monetary pledges for each attack which results in a kill (and a point) for WSU during the seven matches during October...$5,791.65 has been collected since the first campaign in 2002...interested donors may contact the WSU volleyball office at 509-335-0277.

COUGARS LAST WEEK: Washington State's volleyball team dropped two matches at home to top-ranked conference teams...Cougars played very competitively against No. 4 USC before losing 30-25, 20-30, 30-24, 30-18...WSU also had a strong beginning against No. 7 UCLA before falling 33-31, 30-18, 30-23...WSU senior Tara West tallied 26 kills (3.71 kpg), hit .373 and snagged seven blocks for the two matches...Jackie Albright added 17 kills and 24 digs while Brittany Johnson had 17 kills and six blocks...Kelly Hyder had 25 digs...Maureen Perez had 72 assists, 21 digs, and five blocks...Cassie Robbins contributed six blocks.
